Game Rules

Rules (not guidelines)

The game commences 01-Sep-2007 00:00:01 (AEST) and concludes 30-Sep-2007 23:59:59 (AEST).

  • A child is deemed to be 14 years old or younger.
  • You do not have to have a separate account on Geocaching.com or Geocaching Australia. You may play under your parent or guardians account if you do not wish to set up an account for yourself. If you do this, please tell us in the justification for your claim so we know what geocacher we are looking for. Multiple children from the same family may play against the same account on Geocaching.com or Geocaching Australia but each child must have a separate account at CachingGames.com
  • Caches you claim for the game must be found, hidden or attended during the game period. ie. You cannot claim requirements where you found the cache prior to the game commencement or after the game conclusion.
  • Caches you claim for the game must not have been previously found by you or the account under which you are making your claim. i.e. If you are playing under a parent or guardian account, you cannot claim a cache if your parent or guardian account has already found that cache.
  • Caches you claim for the game must be logged at CachingGames.com within 7 days of your find date on the original listing site or prior to the end of the game, whichever occurs first.
  • To be considered to have completed the game, players must have completed 10 of the requirements.
  • There will be 25 requirements released. Plan your strategy accordingly.
  • No more than 10 requirements can be logged.
  • Each requirement must be claimed against a different cache. ie. You cannot claim more than one requirement per cache.
  • Choose the caches you log against your requirements carefully. You will not be able to remove logs that you can make a higher point find against. Players who have more than 10 logs at the end of the game will be disqualified.
  • The name of the game is strategy. You are seeking the highest number of points, not claiming the requirements first. It is not meant to be a race.
  • The game tracking mechanism relies somewhat upon your honesty when logging your claims. The games administrators will undertake verification of each log. Players who continually log inaccurate information will be disqualified from the game.
  • The game administrators decision is final. The game administrators will delete logs that do not clearly state which requirement is being claimed and a justification for the claim. The game administrators will attempt to contact you in the event of any confusion, however the game administrators reserve the right to delete any logs that are deemed not to have met the requirement.
  • The games administrators reserve the right to provide clarifications to the rules at any point during the game.
  • If you have any queries about whether a cache is suitable, contact the games administrators prior to logging the find. The games administrators will try to finds way to say yes to a requirement rather than say no, so lateral thinking is encouraged, but please, when in doubt contact a games administrator.

Prizes

There are 5 prizes on offer.

  • 5 cachers who complete 10 requirements and have the highest points score

Every child who participates and achieved 10 requirements will also receive a 55mm hat button / badge. To claim these prizes you will be required to send a stamped, self addressed enevlope to the game administrator. The address will be made available for those players who are eligible at the completion of the game.

Scoring

The decision of the games administrators is final.

The ladder is sorted by the number of requirements claimed, then number of points earned. Prizes are awarded based on the finishing position on the ladder.

Points are awarded on the basis of the size of the cache container:

  • Micro = 1 Point
  • Small = 2 Points
  • Regular = 3 Points
  • Large = 4 Points
  • Other* = 5 Points

* Note that for the purposes of this game, other means any physical cache that is not micro, small, regular or large.

In the event that there are two players with the identical score at the end of the game period, the highest, earliest score will be used as the tiebreaker.

As an example.

Scenario 1:

  • Player A and B ended the game with the same number of points.
  • Player A: The highest points total for any requirement was 5.
  • Player B: The highest points total for any requirement was 4.
  • Player A is deemed to be the winner as they claimed the highest number of points against a single requirement than Player B.

Scenario 2:

  • Player A and B ended the game with the same number of points.
  • Player A: The highest points total for any requirement was 5 and their claim against this requirement was on 15th September.
  • Player B: The highest points total for any requirement was 5 and their claim against this requirement was on 12th September.
  • Player B is deemed to be the winner as they claimed the highest number of points against a single requirement on an earlier date than Player A.

Scenario 3:

  • Player A and B ended the game with the same number of points and the highest number of points claimed against any requirement was claimed on the same day.
  • Player A: The highest points total for any requirement was 5 and their claim against this requirement was on 12th September. Their second highest points total for any requirement was 4 and their claim against this requirement was on 28th September.
  • Player B: The highest points total for any requirement was 5 and their claim against this requirement was on 12th September. Their second highest points total for any requirement was 4 and their claim against this requirement was on 20th September.
  • Player B is deemed to be the winner as they matched points and dates on the first highest claim against a requirement but they claimed the highest number of points against the second highest requirement on an earlier date than Player A.

In the event that two team ties down to every requirement on points and dates, bribes will be accepted by the games administrators.
